Bosnian Genocide
In 1980 the Yugoslav dictator Josip Broz Tito died as nationalism within the Yugoslav Republic threatened to break it apart. With the rise of the Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic Serbian nationalism spread throughout the empire with the help of Slobodan forming of discontent between the Serbian Bosnians and the Croatians. When Slovenia, Croatia, and Macedonia declared their independence in 1991 a war broke out. The Yugoslavian civil war lasted from 1991 to 1999 and resulted in the genocide that killed Bosnian Muslims and Croatians. It resulted in the death of around 100,000 people.
